There are so many great reasons to move to Cherokee County, NC, but another area to move to is Andrews, NC. Just about 25 minutes east of Murphy on Hwy 74 is a great little town where you can enjoy a more leisurely pace of life to settle down in.
You won’t find any condos or townhomes here, but this small town atmosphere with its tree lined streets are just the thing that attracts new residents to this lifestyle in the mountains. Whether you’re wanting a home in town, down along Junaluska Creek, Lake Nantahala or up on the mountain, Andrews, NC has so much to offer.
Downtown Andrews is becoming quite the Artist destination with the addition of the Whatmore Art Museum. The Whatmore includes in its programs an Artist in Residency program, an Artist Retreat, and Atelier Classes & Workshops which are taught in the traditional European manner.
They even have an airport - Smoky Mountain Aero. They offer Private - ATP in Single Engine, and Multi-Engine Airplanes. SMA also offers Private, Instrument, Commercial, and Flight Instructor Courses and Maintenance services at their facility. The Andrews-Murphy Airport is listed at 1,699 feet.
If you love the outdoor activities then hiking or horseback riding in the Nantahala Forest or some whitewater rafting or kayaking on the Nantahala River is a great start to your adventure here in the NC mountains. Just down the road from Andrews you’ll find the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest. And if you’re ready for a little more excitement and lots of curves, motorcycle enthusiasts love the 318 curves in 11 miles of the Tail of the Dragon.
This is a place to lay back, kick off your shoes, wade in the creeks, jump in the river, sing, dance, and enjoy the hospitality of the mountain people that welcome you to join them in living in Andrews, NC...the little town with the big heart.
