ActiveRain History part deux or Ahhh this isn’t Helping my Addiction
Let’s move our story to early 2006; Matt and Jonathan are faced with a system that is having trouble getting traction out of the transaction management piece of ActiveRain. That was a big problem in that without that portion of the system running well, ActiveRain would not be able to grow. Matt and Jonathon had a meeting of the minds and made the decision that would be the turning point for ActiveRain, turning it into the ActiveRain social network that all know and love, and are hopelessly addicted to today.
The piece that really made ActiveRain different was about to occur, as the story goes it was a dark and stormy night, okay it might not have been dark and stormy, but it was the middle of the night. Matt was asleep when he was bolted awake with the idea that would make all the difference, award points for different activities and tasks completed by members. AHHH UMMMM
The new ActiveRain site was launched in late May of 2006. It consisted of just 10 profiles, mostly from the staff. A major campaign was undertaken to get things rolling and increase membership. By June of that year the blogging platform was added for us by the then 570 members that were ActiveRain. Today ActiveRain is the largest real estate network in the world supporting over 178,000 members, and growing daily. I know personally joining ActiveRain has been a game changer, I learn something new everyday, literally. I know that all of my ActiveRain colleagues feel the same about ActiveRain and their membership is something they take seriously. I don’t know of one member or associate that doesn’t feel a sense of pride in being a part family.
Some milestones that were achieved along the way need to be pointed out and acknowledged.
- The first post by a member was written by Brett Tousley of Tacoma Washington, a simple link to his website. View that post here
- The second recorded post came just two hours later by Stan Mackey, an agent from the Seattle Washington area. That post is available here
- The first actual blog post was a subject piece written by (the envelope please) Jay Thompson that same day. View that post here
I hope this helps fill in some blanks for the Newbie’s as well some of us that have been here a while.
Have you seen these men, if you do, thank them...
