The Florida Housing Market is Recovering: UPDATED

By

Florida Housing MarketAlthough you'll probably not read or hear about it from the press.  There is confirmation of the market upswing by real estate economist Hank Fishkind.

Good news just doesn't sell papers now, does it.  Don't get upset with the outlink.  It's not to my outside blog but the Florida Assn. of Realtors website.  Have a good weekend Floridians!

Hank Fishkind says the other economists are wrong and that housing markets are now on the slow upswing.  Let's hear it for Hank - the stand up economist that's speaking his mind!

He calls the negative news about the housing market blown out of proportion, and says that, outside of Miami's condominium market, the state's housing markets hit bottom months ago and are now on a slow return to normalcy.

An old friend of mine who was a reporter did a very egative story on Eastern Airlines back in the 70s.  The airline's PR guys met with him, and he explained:

"When a million planes take off and land without incident, that is not news.  When one plane crashes it is news."  I'm starting to feel like a lot of the real estate press is concocting airplane crashes.

We could sure use some positive news.  Are the Realtors feeling optimistic?

I'm so glad when they write about the positive things and not the negative.  All that negative hoopla just makes every market sound like we are in the toilet and every single homeowner is in foreclosure and no one is buying any homes, when it's not true.

Hi Chris-

Actually I did see this in the news - but they immediately changed their minds the next day to get the sales back up.

I am so looking forward to my new 2nd home in Bonita Springs!

I'm so happy to hear the news I read this yesterday. I have been seeing more buyers down here in South Florida as well. Let's hope the media doesn't screw this up!

I hate the news...

Countrywide's CEO doesn't believe there will be a substantial recovery until 2009.... hmmm... might that help his stock if they originate more loans in a bad economy? and helping his stock makes him a higher paid person!!

The market is all about waves... there isn't one wave that wraps up the entire US, the entire Southeast, the entire State of Florida, the entirety of South Florida or even one county, city or municipality.  Some BLOCKS will see their own mini waves!

There are definite signs of a turnaround in different areas, markets, neighborhoods and cities...

just everyone wants to talk about absorption rates in Miami!... not absorption rates for $300K 3rd floor condos in highrises with no ocean view

Chris, no newspapers like good news because only negative ugly news sells papers.  I hope your market makes a strong comeback and I hope your cup overfloweth.  Have a great weekend.
