Are you getting that feeling of spring renewal? Flowers will be blooming and the grass will be growing, as winter is left far behind. Everything is fresh, and you want to soak it all up.  Why not put a trip to Gulf Shores or Orange Beach at the top of your priority list this Spring?  There’s a whole lot more to do there than lounge on the beach, so you can plan an active, educational vacation in beautiful surroundings.

If you are interested in hikingOrange Beach is home to the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail, which travels through scenic Orange Beach and all the way to the gorgeous beach of Gulf State Park. There are several bikeways to choose from that you can take to explore the beauty of the gulf coast up close and personal.  After biking, don’t forget your binoculars to spy on the many amazing birds you will see along the Alabama Coastal Birding Trail.  For more information be sure to visit Alabama Coastal Birding Trail.com.

If you are ready to leave land and head for the water, there are many different activities waiting for you too. Entertain the possibility of renting a kayak to drift along the peaceful back bays. Perhaps you are a lover of dolphins; if this is the case, there are Gulf Coast cruises that you can take to see the dolphins in their habitat. The Gulf Coast even offers visitors a chance to see how local shrimpers catch the seafood dish that so many of us enjoy eating.

The Alabama Gulf Coast is well known as a nesting habitat for several different endangered sea turtles.Between the months of May and October female turtles head to the beaches of the Gulf Coast to lay their eggs. In approximately 60 days the eggs will hatch, and the hatchlings head back to the sea.

There is a volunteer program called Share the Beach that has been organized to protect nesting sea turtles and their habitat. They offer great information of how to and educate us all on how to be more “turtle friendly”.  For more information please check out http://www.alabamaseaturtles.com.

Hey Lance.  The beach sounds like a great place to be this time of year.  The spring weather is awesome around here too and we will soon be off to the lake. Cheers.
