Come celebrate First Friday in downtown Binghamton, New York this week on April 2nd. This exciting First Friday Art Walk event, held rain or shine, is THE place to be every month as we come out, mingle and explore the art world of local artists here in the Southern Tier.
This month's event is a special one as a silent auction will be held to benfit the victims of the Haitian earthquake. The Binghamton Helping Haiti Heal event features the silent auction as well as local bands to provide a festive atmosphere. Held in the center of the Art Walk on State Street, sponsors are asking for a five dollar donation to get you in the door. All proceeds will be forwarded to the Catholic Relief Services Haiti Relief Fund. The event will be held during the regular hours of the First Night Art Walk which is from six to nine o'clock pm.
First Friday Art Walks began a few years ago, in 2004, to add a taste of SoHo here in our own backyard. With so much local talent, this event provides a wonderful venue for artists to showcase their works and get recognized. Local shops remain open later than usual providing free finger food, music and beverages.
Access to theater shows, fine and casual dining, music, free food and wine, gallery-hopping, specialy shops and museums, sets the stage for a wonderful and inexpensive, if not free, way to spend one Friday a month.
Cousin to the Fist Night Celebration held on New Year's Eve every year, the First Night Art Walk is the Greater Binghamton's ultimate street festival. The weather promises to be absolutely wonderful on April 2nd so don't wait for New Year's Eve to step out and join the festivities!
