Naperville may get Free WiFi

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX of Naperville

The city of Naperville IL may be contracting (for free) with MetroFi to supply the whole city with free (ad supported" WiFi access throughout town. This follows on the heels of the neighboring town of Aurora IL doing this. I am anxious to see how this works...

The benefit to the city will be increased communications for all of the city services as well.

What a great idea.  I've heard of certain mountain communities doing in in Colorado Glenwood Springs and Aspen.  Here in lovely Lone Tree the Ridge Gate neighborhood where Toll Brothers is developing have included it as a perk.

Towns all over could get major points by offering relevant services like this.  In fact including such services in our taxes would be a benefit to both, we could write off the taxes...

Hate being redundant but . . . That is a great idea.  This may not be a benefit for some with wireless phone cards but to many others (who may not be able to afford the costly buggers) it is a definite value added feature to living in your area.  If, and when it becomes available, could you post what the cost is to the City of Naperville IL?

Thanks again Angus for a very worthwhile comment!

TIA, the Tampa International Airport, has had free WiFi access for some time (an example for many other airports). St Pete is putting it out for bids, but we're a pretty spread out city, so it won't happen soon.

My town, Portsmouth, NH, set up a small are in the downtwon area for wi-fi, and it's worked out so well that they're now talking about doing it for most of the town now.  I would LOVE it if they would actually do that.

I read an article recently where Boston wanted to do it but there were so much backlash over a "monopoly" that they scrapped that idea.  That's a shame, what a great service for the towns & cities to offer!
