Planks Field is of course named after famous Gettysburg native Eddie Plank. Eddie Plank was born on August 31, 1875 just a short 10 years after the Civil War, and would go on to be considered one of the best pitchers in baseball history. During his time with Philadelphia Athletics Plank earned the nickname Gettysburg Eddie. Eddie Plank would go on to inducted in the Baseball Hall of Fame with a lifetime ERA of 2.35, an astounding win loss record of 326 - 194 with eight 20 win seasons. Eddie Plank is buried in Evergreen Cemetery here in Gettysburg Pa, the same cemetery as Jennie Wade, that is another story however.
What could nicer than living in a custom built C & A home in a community dedicated to a hall of fame pitcher you ask, well let me tell you. The first ten home buyers in the Planks Fielddevelopment will qualify to save $2000 per month towards their mortgage for the first year in the home. Sounds like some incentive to me.
