Georgia towns are known for their courthouse squares and beautiful courthouses! Many coffee table books have been written about the courthouses and how they are holding up as they age. Many were built in the 1850's and earlier and some are in pretty poor condition, but Pike County's courthouse is still functional. The county commission is working hard to procure funding for refurbishing. Hopefully it will happen soon.

Interesting note on how some communities centered activity around the Courthouse. Restoring these buildings sounds like a great project which could be spearheaded by the local American Bar Association members as a way to give back to their communities and make a difference in historic preservation.

That is an excellent thought, Emily! I have just the attorney to contact, too. He and I sit next to each other at Kiwanis! Thank you so much for the thought!
