This month's 5-Minute Superstar was Shelly Clark, a principal at Cardinal Surveying. For members of the Metropolitan St. Louis Chapter and St. Charles Chapter of the Women's Council of Realtors®, you know Shelly Clark as a leader and active member. However, her passion is surveying and she spends a substantial amount of time educating St. Louis and St. Charles Realtors® on the ins and outs of land surveying. However, as this month's 5-Minute Superstar, Shelly shared a few secrets of her success:
- First, Shelly told us about her "Little Red Book." Shelly has grown her business based on personal relationships and connections. The Little Red Book contains information and notes on her customers and prospects such as favorite foods, recent travels, birthdays, areas of expertise and more. By listening to her customers and prospects, she creates a bond by the information that is shared. For Shelly, there isn't such a thing as a cold call. With her Little Red Book, Shelly always has a timely, personal ice breaker. Her customer service and marketing starts with listening to her customers, building a strong rapport and then addressing their needs.
- Second, Shelly shared with us the benefits of board service. By actively participating in professional, church and social groups, Shelly is recognized as a leader and has greatly expanded her sphere of influence. In a short period of time, Shelly's boundary survey orders have exploded from 150 orders in the first year to over 1,000 orders last year.
When WCR members talk about the Power of Participation and the benefits of WCR membership, one only has to look to Shelly Clark as an example, role model and mentor. Giving and participation are two of the greatest business strategies for long-term success.
