I usually consider myself a pretty happy person, my life has be great no awful experiences in my past yet every now and then I can still let the little things get me down. At the Edina Realty Expo last year we had the most wonderful speaker I have ever heard. His name is Andy Andrews and he delivers a wonderful message. I have found since I experienced his presentation I have a new found power within myself to control my future. His book is called The Travelers Gift, it's a short easy read I hope many of you will decide to check out. His 7 decisions to success are quite simple and yet many of us don't take the time to think about these things that have the ability to impact our lives greatly.
I have found that since I thought about it and realized that the buck stops with me, I'm responsible for my past and my future and no one else has that responsibility except me I have more confidence in my decisions.
I have decided I would seek wisdom and be a servant to others, this comes back 10 fold. Finding Active Rain and it's members has reinforced the value of seeking wisdom and my experience volunteer coordinating for our school district for several years has definately shown the value of serving others. I have met more great people doing that volunteer position than I ever could on my own.
I have alway been a can-do type of person, but to think about it and decide to be a person of action has created opportunites I would have never had otherwise.
Having a decided heart has been a good piece of advice, the confidence and security from trusting my own thoughts and following through with them is quite empowering.
This is a piece of advice everyone should adhere to, a person has to choose to be happy. It's a choice that I believe will add years to ones life. Like I mentioned earlier I have always thought of myself as a happy person, but to take it a step further and choose to be happy is a great soul builder. I think if we all could take the time to acknowledge the need to be happy even it things aren't perfect in life, life will be better.
When Andy presented this next idea it was a break through for me, to have a forgiving spirit. The idea that forgiveness is a gift to be given, not a reward to be earned, was huge for me. Not only for others but for myself. The baggage many of us can carry from silly things that have happened in the past. Things that can't be changed but still haunt our soul from time to time. My mother used to say "no use crying over spilt milk" but you have to forgive the mistake before you are able to move on, whether it be with yourself or someone you know.
Lastly, one needs to persist without exception. We need to believe in our futures, eventhough we can see it all laid out. We all have a path in life and need to work our way down that path no matter what. Sometimes other things can interfere and we wander off our path,if we take the time to stop and see things with the previous 6 thoughts in mind many times the things that happend taking us off our path can actually be part of the foundation that supports the path we follow.
For me the presentation and the book were a wonderful experience and have helped me forge forward in my real estate business as well as my personal life. I have found my life to be filled with opportunites and the little bumps in the road have stayed just that little bumps in the road. Thanks for reading.
