Silver Beach New Jersey is a private beach community that is a part of Dover Township and is sometimes
referred to as one of the "Barrier Islands". This beach community however is only a total of about 5 blocks long. Silver Beach rarely appears on any local map. Most times the zip codes of neighboring Normandy Beach (08739) and Lavallette (08735) will be used for mail. The northern most part of the barrier island is Point Pleasant Beach and the southern most part is Island Beach State Park.
Silver Beach New Jersey was first established in 1952. The barrier island is a thin in width only three blocks wide. Silver Beach is essentially broken out as follows... The Ocean or Beach Side , The Middle or median, and The Bay Side. The Ocean side is unique in the aspect that the homes that are the farthest east on the street are actually Oceanfront property (with sand as their backyard) and get to enjoy the summer aroma of sand, salt and sun up close and personal. Silver Beach New Jersey also has one of the widest beaches of all of the towns on the barrier island. This not only offers more room for the residents to enjoy the beach, but also adds protection from storms. Strategic placement and management of the dunes has also contributed to this.
The Middle properties "between the highways" gets its name from simplistic reasons; these houses are in
between the two primary 2 lane highways that are the main source of travel for anyone wishing to go north or south on the Barrier Islands. The homes in this area are typically less expensive than the homes on the ocean or bay sides.
Although anyone can access the beach if they pay a nominal fee, it is not necessarily convenient for those who do not own a home in Silver Beach because there are no public bathroom facilities, food sales or parking. Also available to the members of the community is a "Bay Beach" which is located on Rt. 35 South This small beach which leads into a lagoon consists of a Bathing Area (which Closed until further notice due to sea nettles aka Jellyfish), Bocce Court, Picnic Table, a Playground area, and a tennis Court. It is a great place for kids to play or to launch your ocean kayak. This area is also is private and closed to the general public.
Silver Beach New Jersey is such a great place for families. There are lots of activities during the summer including movie nights on the beach and many family related events on special days like 4th of July and Labor Day.
