May 1st is the day, Hooters of Kennesaw is the place. The event is Mud for Blood 7. It has grown to be one of LifeSouth's biggest collection events each year.
Each year, many of the local Four Wheel Drive clubs get together to donate blood and support regional charities. In addition to the blood donations there is also a truck & car show, silent auction and door prize drawing for donors. Some vendors also sponsor special deals for the day. In the past, Omix-Ada has allowed Mud4Blood to host their annual "Scratch and Dent" sale with returned merchandise and stuff that might have been in the warehouse too long. 4WD Parts has also brought out a trailer with special sales as well.
The GBR4WD Club has hosted this event since its inception in 2004. That first year LifeSouth collected 84 pints of blood. By 2008, it was up to almost 150 units. The 2009 event was done off of a main route and the blood collections dropped off slightly... but for 2010, the goal is to break 200 pints. Since each pint can actually help as many as three different people, over 2000 people may have been reached by the total Mud4Blood collection.
The Truck and Car Show starts at 11:00 and runs until 6:00. There will be judging in several categories ranging from 'People's Choice' to some off-the-wall things like 'Best Use of a Windshield Wiper, NOT on a Windshield'. Blood collection will start by 11:00 and run until at least 4:00. Raffles and Silent Auctions, as well as the vendor sales, will run all day.
Enjoy some wings or a burger at Hooters and make a whole day out of it. Drop into the event listing on FaceBook and say 'Hi'. Invite your friends. We'd love to see you there.
