Hey guys and girls,

I missed an entire week of blogging on Active Rain and I have to say...I missed you guys. I helped sell a lot up in Alaska, wrote up a house here in Vancouver (waiting for the listing agent to call back...hopefully!), and went to the beach with my fiance last Thursday.

I will retire somewhere near Cannon Beach when I'm old! Go to Bill's tavern on Thursday night and watch the band Floating Glass Balls. You'll forget all your worries and enjoy a great micro brew.

Okay, so we were looking at lots and homes for sale while we were there and I noticed a lot of the newer homes looked, well, old. The beach can trash a home in a matter of a couple years. My question is why don't people build ICF (Insulated Concrete Form) homes on the beach. They've proved their weight on tornado's and have a projected life span of 100+ years compared to 30 to 50 for stick built.

The other thing that's a killer for stick builts on the beach is mold because of the salty wet air that gets into the home, high winds, and Oregon rain everyday. The weather man has the easiest job in the world. Yesterday was rain. Today...rain. Tomorrow it looks like RAIN! ICF homes have a 2 inch insulation barrier on each side of the concrete wall. This barrier would keep the inside of the home dry even when the exterior starts to fall apart. Homes that were 3+ years old have exterior siding failing. I couldn't believe it!

All I'm saying is that if I spend $850,000 on a piece of land. I would like to build something that lasts!

Talk to you guys soon,

Great photos.  Which one do you want!  Isn't it funny how we miss AR when not on it . It's an addiction.
