My husband and a bunch of his buddies, old football (Well, at that time they were still young.) players, got together and decided to begin a Pee Wee Football League in Seary Arkansas.  The year must have been 1969 because someone saved and loaned me this list of players and coaches.  Duncan's Roadrunners was his team.

It is interesting now to look back and see who the first players were and who the highly competitive coaches were.  Hubby coached for about 4 years and said he had to quit before he got so heated and upset that he'd ruin his health.  But they had gotten the league started and it still exists to this day.  A picture of his team is also shown below.  Duncan's Roadrunners1969 Pee Wee FootballThTh

GREAT picture.  Wish the "little boys" were identified, too. I notice Tim Langford in the roster....he went on to become a star quarterback for Ark. State University....and is now a prominent urologist in Little Rock.  Tim is the son of another SHS grad. '54, my romantic lead in our Senior Play "You Can't Take it With You"- Dean Langford.

Sid Quattlebaum was my escort on the football royalty, l953.  He has since died of cancer, but he fought the good fight, and I am happy I visited him and talked and laughed over the good old days.

Seeing the name Sid Quattlebaum reminds me that we didn't use shortened names in high school. Sid was always Sidney and I was always Donald. Sidney was a big guy and I think of him as a gentle giant. Good football player and nice guy.

Love the picture Barbara. Bet Dude is proud of those days.

Here's a picture of Sidney from 1954.

The league was indeed formed in 1969. This article/photo was from the 1971 season.

The names of the people in the photo are:

Front row from the left: Bob Lassetter, Rodger Duncan, Steve Parrish, Owen Quattlebaum, Clint Emfinger, Robert Cargile, Richard Cargile, Tim Langford, Frank Brookshire

Middle row from the left: Alan Quattlebaum, Cliff Emfinger (no visible face), Jesse Johnson (no visible face), Paul Williams

Back row from the left: Sid Quattlebaum, Vernon Williams

These men coached the "Roadrunners" from 1969 to 1973 (5 years) and I was privileged to play for them from 1969 thru 1972. We had so much fun practicing after school and playing on Sunday afternoons.

I am assembling an archive of this league and I would like to hear from anyone who has any rosters, schedules or team photos of this league they can share. I am especially needing any Speed Queen and Powell team photos from 1969 to 1972. Please contact me at jce3735@yahoo.com

Thank you for sharing these memories.

Nutsy, you can do any kind of Pee Wee!  You're my godson!

Anita, you gave some good info on these folks in the picture.  Mr. Williams has also passed on and one of his sons is a doctor in Little Rock.  Paul Williams and Tim Langford were in my "smart" class of English when I taught it one year in Junior High.  Almost all the kids in that class have gone on to success.  Sid was one of Rodger's best friends and they got together and planned plays and strategies.  I understand they only lost one game during the entire time they coached.

Don, thanks for the picture of Sid.  I miss him.  He had a delicious sense of humor and made everyone laugh.  Also don't forget that the South believed in two names,  Elmer Dale, Barbara Ann, Dorothy Faye, etc, etc.

Cliff, thanks for naming the little guys, including yourself!  Perhaps you should tell about the harrowing incident that probably made the coaches give it up.  I remember that you two twins were also in my smart school at school, weren't you?

Godmother,

We need to remind Mr Charles that he is not part of our group. He is not supportive of us and needs a swift kick in the rear end most days. I choose to party without him.
