Renton, WA. is definitely ahead of the curve!

Good afternoon all! It's cold up here again with snow expected in the foothills. I wanted to tell you about Renton, WA. This city is definitely ahead of the curve!

I am a relatively new member of the Renton Chamber of Commerce and have been attending the Business Development Committee meeting held every first Tuesday morning of the month. To me, it's amazing how much Renton has grown and how business friendly it is.

The Chamber is strong (over 700 members) and I've felt very welcomed by the membership. There are numerous events and goings-on in Renton on a monthly basis. The business development committee in conjunction with the city is privy to all the business activity in Renton.

A little more than a year ago, The Landing opened to considerable fanfare. Along with big-box retailers such as Target and Lowe's, there is also an LA Fitness, multi-screen movie complex, numerous restaurants, and even apartments. The Landing is Renton's statement that the city belongs. In the future, look for a grocery store (there have been rumors of a Trader Joe's) and other businesses to fill in.

Downtown Renton is also undergoing a metamorphosis. Although there have been a couple restaurants that have failed recently, there are also several that do quite well and new businesses are opening all the time.

With the relocation of the Seattle Seahawks nearby, there is even talk of more hotels and condo's to accomodate the growth.

Why do I think Renton is strong when other cities are struggling a bit right now? One, City Hall has some great leaders. Two, Renton has an enviable tax base to draw on. There are numerous large retailers plus Boeing feeding the kitty. Three, Renton is accessible. Located just off I-405, and not far from I-5, you are a matter of minutes from either the Eastside or Seattle. Four, and finally, Renton is an affordable place to live. Housing is reasonably priced and shopping is abundant.

So the next time, you find yourself in Renton, stop and have a glass of wine at Vino at the Landing, dim sum at Tea Palace, or dinner at the Melrose Grill. I guarantee you will be pleasantly surprised. Have a great day!

Couldn't agree with you more, Paul. There are so many good things about Renton to talk about today, I hardly recognize parts of it from when I moved here 20 years ago.
