My Very First Success at Imbedding a Video... My Own Garden Party

By
Real Estate Agent with New Home Hunters of Fort Worth and Tarrant County

I almost don't believe my addled old brain was able to do this... but I think I did. I was going to write a post about my recent trip back to Cleveland, and a visit I had with my own sister. In many ways... being there at my own "Garden Party" was a lot like listening to Rick Nelson singing this piece of his own personal history.

It turned out that my very own "Garden Party" did not take place at Madison Square Garden... like Rick Nelson's did... but at a restaurant in Mentor, Ohio... Applebee's. Anyway... back to my addled old brain. I have never been able to figure out how to put a video into any of my Active Rain blog posts. At least, not before this one. But... it appears that this time... after watching two tutorials on Active Rain... (I watched each of them three times)... I actually was able to do this. Wow... I guess this "old dog".... actually, I am more of an "old cat"... CAN learn a new trick or two. :)

Tom:  Yeah.  It's a Woo Hoo moment.  Now, all I have to do is remember it.  Just for fun, I came up with another video I wanted to post, so I made... or stumbled through... another post... imbedding a video into it as well.  Here it is... It's the Worst Day... Since Yesterday... From StarGate-Universe .  Please go over and take a look at it.  It's a really cute tune.

Marie:  Yes... I have that problem in other areas as well... once I've done something... forgetting how I did it so I could do it again.  Perhaps that's why I only have one child...:)

What a great idea... about the Flip Video.  Too bad I didn't have one of those when my daughter was born.  Mebbe I could have had a dozen kids by now... LOL.

Tom:  Just remember not to be wearing your jammies when you do one of those real estate videos.  You'll either scare off your prospects, or run the risk they'll call the Jammy Police on you.  Either way... not a good plan.

Barbara:  It was my pleasure.  Yes... he had great eyes.  I am sure that some of his "other stuff" was pretty great to look at as well... but I digress... LOL.

I am glad I was able to bring a smile to your face with this.  But, in my case... it's not nostalgia if I live in the past... which I often do.  So... for some, this might be a very up-to-date video.  Funny how those things work sometimes.

Steve:  Thanks for the kind words, my friend.  But... it sure would have been nice to have known how to do this... ummm... five hundred posts ago... LOL.

Joan:  Yeah... I'm on my way, now.  To where, though ?  That's the scary part.  Yes... it's going to be fun, and it will surely add much to the possibilities of what I blog about.  It opens up many new areas for me.  Just think of all the George Bush videos I can post, now.  Dubble Yikes !  I'm startin' to feel "dangerous."  LOL.

Congrats on getting the video embeded.  Way cool.  And I love Rickey Nelson.  My mom had all his 45s and 76s and she let me have them when I was a child.  And it helped that my Granny was nammed Mary Lou too.

Tammy:  Yeah... Ricky was way cool.  It was also amazing how different, and how much really the same... Ricky and Rick were.  Such a sad story to see when I re-read all about what Rick went through at Madison Square Garden... when he appeared... and did not look exactly the same way he did when he was on Ozzie and Harriet.

How great that you, your Mom, and your Granny had that to share with each other.

You did good girl! The whole thing was well written and video played fine. With regards to paragraphs and videos....you have to be careful when you are switching from WYSIWYG to HTML. Before going to HTML and placing the video, look at the words or sentence you want the video to follow and memorize them, then go over to HTML and find them. Good luck, these old dogs, err, cats are just picking up these learning curves from AR University.

Hi Karen ~ Congrats! I love when I figure out how to do a new thing. And isn't it great how you can get all of these oldies but goodies (or the newest of new for that matter) on youtube?

I loved Ricky Nelson when I was a kid.  He had the most beautiful eyes.  So dreamy and he would close them when he sang.  So sad that he died too young.

I never realized you'd never embedded a video before.  Thought you knew everything lol.  Well you do now.

Truth, Excellence and a Good Deal

Karen Anne,  In order to get all the formatting that you want, you just have to remember to do a few simple things.

First, create your post like you normally would do with all of the formatting that the WYSIWYG editor offers.  Where ever you decide that you are going to want the video to be, make sure you put a separate line or paragraph there by hitting the "enter" key.

Then, save your post as a draft. You'll see that the post is formatted as usual.  Then go back to edit and click on the "HTML" tab.  Look for the extra paragraph line you added for your video.  It will be represented by the code <p></p>.  You want to paste your video code between <p> and </p>. Then just hit submit and check it out.  If everything looks good, go back to edit and publish it as a public post.  As someone else mentioned, if you now try to edit it in the WYSIWYG editor, the video code for the most part will be stripped out and won't play.  But even that is no big deal.  Just repaste the video code over whatever is left between that <p> and </p>
