Sandhill Cranes

Real Estate Agent with Prudential Team Realty

Living in Nebraska South of Kearney on the Platte River I used to be awakened by the sounds of the cranes during their annual migration.  In a recent trip back to Nebraska I took these photo's of some of the Sandhill Crane migration.  There are about 600,000 cranes that make the migration annually from Texas to Canada.  I'm not sure how they were tagged "Sandhill" Cranes.

With wingspans of over five feet these huge birds lay over in Nebraska to feed and mate.  Have a great weekend.

Those photos are wonderful!  I love the color of the white & gray cranes against the gold field -- and that spot of red!

I used to live in Yuma, AZ, and the sanhill cranes were down around the rivers there. I loved to watch them. Nice photos.

Wow what a sight. I've never seen so many cranes together in one place. Thanks for teaching me something new and for the great shots

They are terrific birds.  The Whooping Cranes are even more spectacular, and have very contrasting black and white coloring with red. They were almost extinct at one point.  They put some of their eggs in with the Sandhill Cranes and they are on the upswing for counts.  They migrate with the Sandhill Cranes but I have never been able to get a picture.  Their wingspans are over six feet.

I knew that they spent a lot of time in Mexico, but was unaware that they were in Yuma.

I didn't appreciate them quite as much when I was living in Nebraska and they were keeping me awake all night.
