The Economy Is Improving, or so We Are Being Told

The economy is improving, or so we are being told. Is there such a thing as mind control? Obviously, that's what some believe with all the articles on how the economy is improving.  I read about how great things are in the newspaper; everything is wonderful; the recession is over.

Economy?

Is the recession over; is our economy improving? My best friend is a teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District and they just voted in a pay cut. I'll bet it's not going to be the last one.  The stock market has been going up.  However, I went to a party the other night and a number of people that I met have either just been fired or are worried that they will be next.

Another good friend is an accountant (if you need a good one he is the best, Michael Horowitz, CPA in Chatsworth and I guarantee that I get nothing out of it) and a client leaving Michael wished him good luck in finding a job in our present economy. Such statements wouldn't still be in the norm, if the economy were improving to the degree that we are being told.

My investor clubs, which have property throughout the United States, are having trouble finding tenants unless they are on section 8 and the government is paying the rent.  Naturally, I am changing all my properties into section 8, because those are the only rent checks that so far have been guaranteed.  Unfortunately, because of our economy, many of my other tenants have not been able to come up with their rents.

Since they don't want to foreclose on any more properties, many of the banks are streamlining the short sale process (as it is really hurting our communities).  Make sure that your agent knows what they are doing.  I have nothing to sell.  Let me, and others, know what is happening with you.  Maybe I can help you; let's share thoughts. Whether it be a foreclosure, a short sale, or a loan modification, I can help you and want to do so. This economy doesn't need to get the best of you, because if you need advice, I am here for you.

The economy IS recovering in SOME parts of the country, Shelley.

I live in the Detroit Area, and there isn't anything resembling a recovery here.

It's interesting to read this from someone in California.  I know that your state is having its own troubles.  I hope that you're not getting hit too badly.

Happy to say, we are seeing a recovery here in suburban Philadelphia.  Homes are selling and values are stable if not rising.  Have to think areas of the country that saw dramatic swings up are still reeling from the financial fallout.

Hi Shelley: The economy here is very much influenced by the stock market and it is a resort area, second home market--all impulse or investor buying. But what I am finding is that the money that has been on the sidelines waiting for a place to invest is in some cases coming out here to the Hamptons--some people feel that a tangible investment like a house is better than the stock market--I happen to agree with them! Builders are also getting quite agressive in building right now and those new builds are getting top dollar in the right location. On the other hand I am very nervous about the month of May and the short sales we have been forwarned about---that may drive the market down again because of the sheer mass of inventory expected---whether it affects this area or not is another question.

It is really improving here, 12% unemployment, 1 out 4 homes on the market are foreclosures, 1 out 6 folks with mortgages either behind on payments are going into foreclsoures.

You can tell the majority here didn't vote for Obama and pay back is HELL.
