Known as the "City of Homes", Bellaire, Texas is infamous for having a wide variety of residential properties. Located in southwest Harris County on Interstate Loop 610, Bellaire is surrounded by several Houston cities and is nestled within the Sugarland/Baytown metropolitan area. Due the city's close proximity to Houston and its abundant residential offerings, Bellaire real estate is ideal for Houston home buyers that are looking for a city that has a strong community, great schools and an abundance of outdoor activities.

Overview

Founded by William Wright Baldwin in 1908, the city was named after Bellaire, Ohio, a location that was served by Baldwin's railroad line. In 1910, Baldwin made significant monetary investments in Bellaire, turning acres of prairie land into residential properties. From that time on, Bellaire was advertised as an exclusive residential area and agricultural trading center. People began to flock to Bellaire to purchase property because it offered the best of both worlds - peaceful suburbia and instant access to the booming city of Houston. Shortly after World War II, Houston began to grow and so too did Bellaire real estate. In 2003, Bellaire's population was estimated to be 16,891, which is quite populous for a residential suburb.

Bellaire Highlights

Bellaire offers two great incentives to Houston home buyers. First, the city has great primary and secondary schools and is part of the Houston Independent School District. Parents that wish to enroll their children in private schools will appreciate what Bellaire has to offer in terms of education. The city is also served by the Houston Community College System (HCCS) and has one library, the Bellaire City Library.

The second incentive is the fact that Bellaire has several parks, the most popular being Bellaire Zindler Park, which is 7.5 acres. Bellaire Zindler Park offers a large public playground, a public swimming pool, a recreational center as well as auditoriums and meeting centers. Other beautiful parks in Bellaire include Evergreen Park, Joe Gaither Park, Jacquet Park and Lafayette Park.

Average Bellaire Home Prices

In March 2010, the average listing price of Bellaire Homes for Sale was $834,373 and the average price per square foot was listed at $86. Last year, the cost per square foot was the same. In 2008, the median sales price for a home in Bellaire was $165,000. Being the 27th wealthiest Texas location per capita income, home prices in Bellaire are slightly more expensive than neighboring cities.

If you are looking to purchase a home in a Houston city that offers great schools, amazing outdoor recreation and different home styles, Bellaire may be ideal for you!
