OK...so...I really want to know how you all feel about this, because it just blows me away. Am I being overly naive to believe that all agents go out of their way to service clients...and get the listing sold...even if that means doing a little to help the other agent out?
Here's the deal, my clients, who I listed their home for and it is pending now, found an "out of area" house on REALTOR.com that they were interested in - as of yesterday we weren't looking, so no - I shouldn't have found it for them :-) Here's where my clients made a mistake, instead of calling me and having me call the listing agent to request the info on the house for them, they called him themselves and found out all they wanted to know...(yes, I already slapped their wrists) and then they called me and told me they were ready to make an offer. OK - well, I do not have access to listing agent's MLS as it is in Northern California. My license of course still works, because it's in state, but we just don't subscribe to their MLS. So, when I called him and told him that he had just spoken to my clients, he asked me who was going to "service" this deal? I thought he meant loans, escrow, inspections, that sort of thing...so I told him we were tied to a loan company but the rest was open for debate... He said, "no, who is going to let them into the property for inspections and that sort of thing because I am too busy to be driving over there for that." I thanked him for his time, gave him my info so he could fax me the print out for the MLS and hung up...totally bewildered. I get that he was probably upset because he thought that he was going to get both ends of the deal - but even if that were the case, wouldn't you just blow it off and say, "Oh well...half of any deal is better than 0% of no deal?"
What say you? My client's are still interested in the home of course, so I am looking for an agent in the area to partner up with for a referral of sorts...and I will handle it that way, but really...what would you do in this situation, how would you handle it?
