I love living in Murfreesboro, TN! One of the best things about living here is the close proximity to Nashville, "Music City USA!"
When you think Tennessee arts and entertainment - Nashville is probably the first thing that comes to mind. But here in Murfreesboro, Tennessee we have our own "Broadway in the ‘Boro!"
The Center for the Arts in downtown Murfreesboro is a non-profit organization that's mission is to improve the "..quality of our community by providing a variety of arts..." I would say that they not only fulfill their "Mission Statement," but they do an amazing job of entertaining and educating Rutherford County.
I am particularly fond of the Center's theatrical productions. Their line up for this season is "The Jungle Book Jr." (which was performed February 5-21, 2010), "Oliver" (April 9, 2010 - May 2, 2010), "The Odd Couple" (June 11-17, 2010), and "Gypsy" (September 10-26, 2010). Certainly something for just about anyone!
This Friday, "Oliver!" based on the book Oliver Twist, written by Charles Dickens will open with Cyndie Verbeten as the director. This musical will showcase the talents of many from our community and is sure to play to SOLD OUT audiences during it's four-week run.
