Lobster and Mac'n'Cheese

Reblogger Tanya Spotts

I love this blog from a fellow Activerain(er).  Thanks for this food for thought. Thank God for both fast times and the slow times.  My soon to be college graduate gave me this shock only yesterday when I called crying to her about the thought of her never coming home to live with with us again, she replied that I have lately been so busy when she calls and feels I have no time for her.   How sad I am to think my clients come first over my family.  Real Estate is not a life or death situation, although we might feel it to be.  Physicians even take a day off and get time away to enjoy family and personal time to recharge.  We need to do the same.

My wife was talking with a local realtor yesterday about the housing market.  The gentleman with whom she spoke has been a real estate agent for 20 years, so she asked him how he's managed to stay in the business all this time.  She was amused by his response, and decided to share it with me.  He told her, "I have learned to enjoy both lobster and mac'n'cheese."

What he meant, of course, is that he has learned to focus on the positives of both the good and the bad times.  When homes are selling like hot cakes, he's enjoyed the "lobster": the rewards that come with abundance.  But he's also capable of enjoying the "mac'n'cheese": the subtler rewards of working in a depressed market.

Because this man knows the real estate sales industry is cyclical, he has kept a great perspecitve about his profession.  That's a real key to success, I think- to relish both the ups & downs.  Knowing there will be bad times allows him to savor the good times.  And knowing there will be good times allows him to weather the bad times.  If he only enjoyed lobster, he would quit (i.e., go hungry) when it came time to eat mac'n'cheese.  If he only enjoyed mac'n'cheese, he would never strive for greater achievements; he would be complacent with mediocrity.

At Obbee, we (of course) hope you will eat more lobster than mac'n'cheese, because we provide sales leads to realtors, insurance agents, mortgage brokers and debt settlement/ loan modification consultants.  We use internet-based tools and methodologies to provide qualified prospect lists- even available in real-time.  With motivated clients, you'll have better odds of needing that bib and little fork for your next meal.  :)

What a great analogy.  Would be nice to be in a position if the question were asked "lobster or mac n cheese" and the answer would be "why not both".

I dont mind mac and cheese as long as its home made cheese sauce! haha Makes for a good meal when sales are low. Nothing wrong with that!
