Twenty-Five Years In The Business & Still Excited

By
Real Estate Sales Representative with Castles Unlimited®

I was realizing the other day that it is officially over 25 years that I have been a Realtor.  Notice I said a Realtor and not a real estate agent.  I joined the Palm Beach Board of Realtors in 1982 and have been active in the business ever since.  Normally I would say that this means absolutely nothing except for one very important thing...I am still excited by the business and my career in the real estate industry.

So I ask you: "What gets you up in the morning and are you excited by the prospects awaiting you during the day ahead?"

A week ago I joked about a certain alarm clock (an invention of mine) to get you going in the morning.  I propose that you must work hard to not just make money...you must work hard to keep yourself interested in the business and create new opportunities for yourself and your clients.  You should constantly be creating new streams of income, delegate new responsibilities to new associates, assistants etc...develope new services for your customers that are second to none and even more.  If you are doing this, you can do this for 25 years and still get joy out of this business.

I am not saying that I have been thrilled everyday over the last 25 years...perhaps having a number of closings this week helps my attitude...but I can assure you that I don't plan to do anything other than real estate for my business over the next 25 years.  I do plan to further evolve in the business and I plan to help other Realtors to get excited everyday and create better lives for them, their families and their clients.  I hope you plan to do the same.

Thanks for this post. I spent 15 years is retail corporate management AND disliked the business for 10 of the 15 years. So much time wasted. I always have had passion for real estate, But never made the change due to the security of having a regular paycheck. Well last year I reflected on my future and asked myself, can I continue to do this work for the next 25 years of my life, and my answer was a big NO! Since I am not getting any younger I decided to follow my passion and become a REALTOR! I love it, best decision I have made. I am not making as much money yet, but I am more positive and I am definitely enjoying my life more. I hope being 40 is not too old to be starting out in this business.  :0)
