BLOGGING MY WAY TO WRITING A BOOK!!!...SOMETHING WE ALL CAN DO!

LET'S HAVE A COMPETITION!!! I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM ALL OF YOU OUT THERE WHO LOVE TO BLOG

After reading a featured post today about how Activerain has been such a valuable source of business for Susan Goulding ("What A difference an Activerain Blog Makes--a Retrospective") and responding to her inspiring post I decided to consider something: WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF I TOOK MY LOCAL POSTS AND PUT THEM  TOGETHER IN A SORT OF HYPER-LOCAL TRAVEL-LOG? Then I discovered/realized something: I have been BLOGGING MY WAY TO WRITING A BOOK!!!... SOMETHING WE ALL CAN DO!

I have been blWRITING A BOOK FROM YOUR BLOGSogging since 2007 and it has been a challenge to get a lot of public attention, especially since I live in a resort/second home area--so, finding that I am not on the radar that the person looking for a primary residence is on, I decided to take the approach of revealing the precious information that no one really knows about the Hamptons....giving people a place to read about the wonderful things to do here in the Hamptons, should you choose to visit here...as a result, I have begun to write a travel log--not even close to being published but it will all come together one day after I have shared some of the most spectacular, funny, historical, and revealing things that make the Hamptons one of the greatest treasures in the USA! The person who buys a house here in the Hamptons is the one has visited here and has fallen in love with the "light", the weather, the beaches, the culture, the artists, the food, the lifestyle and just about everything else you can imagine about a place to have a second home---or a primary one!

Here's how to develop the possibility:WRITING A BLOG

Isn't it a good idea to review some of your posts--look back to the early days too (sometimes those are the best, freshest and genuine ones) and look for the juicy themes, the ones with lots of meat to them. That is where you will get a "thread" of an idea and then start blogging away like mad on the theme!!

It just may be another "travel-log" for some OTHER area, unwritten about or just more revealing than most other books that have covered your part of America. I have found the books that have been written about The Hampton's in the past are good but they all share one common theme: BORING!!! The most colorful ones are the cookbooks and coffee table books---but there are not that many and there is room for lots more!!!...and don't forget the new "readers" like the iPad or even Kindle...these are new venues for good reading and I think a place to keep in mind when you are writing.

BLOG AWAY

So, join me on a campaign of writing something of value from our precious treasury here on Activerain! I would love to hear if someone has already done that? Have YOU written posts that you think would make a great book? (big or small) I think that is something to consider at least--and share whatever you think you can without giving out TMI..:)...Let your creative juices flow and let's see who can do it first!!!

THANK YOU ACTIVE RAIN FOR BEING A PLACE OF IDEAS AND INSPIRATION! ...WHO KNEW THIS PLACE COULD BE SO FRUITFUL AND CREATIVE TOO!!!

What a fabulous idea Paula!  I love it!  Who else but a local real estate agent could possible know as much about the community?  I think you should email Bob Stewart and see if he will make it a contest and award points.  But it has to be longer than a week or two...  Or, maybe you could do a blog series about how to write a blog about your local community and the steps it would take to complete it!

Paula, I started blogging after the book.  It might be time for another one.

Evelyn: Thank you so much for your enthusiasm about the idea! I need to get ahold of someone on this site who knows how to proceed to the next level---it may be Bob Stewart. I think it would be a better suggestion as a local travel-log kind of thing...in other words it needs to be really focused...Don't you think?

Patricia: So, you did it in reverse? ...and what do you think of the blog to book idea?? Thanks for stopping by and letting me know that you see the connection too!.

There are some wonderful platforms that convert blogs to books.

Are you interested in creating an e-book or a printed book?

I was involved in a crowd sourcing project in 2007 at NAR in Las Vegas. We created a book of real estate ideas in a week! We had input from thousands of real estate agents. Seth Godin spoke at NAR that year ... I was surprised and delighted to see my blog appear on the screen in his presentation ... He called that project the "Purple Cow" of the convention.

Book publishing is a fun activity.

Frances: Thank you so much for the input--I have been in touch with Bob Stewart to see if this idea of a competition for "Blog to Book" here on AR would fly and he was very interested but thought it would be too daunting for most members--the publishing part, that is. I think it could be fun to do an ebook for Kindle which as you may know has a Digital Text Platform available for writers who want to publish--It is all a part of Amazon so is already a great place for people to go to buy ebooks. I was thinking of doing it myself with a travel-log on the Hamptons---there are so few and I think could be a great way to get the attention of the public and would be a great way to get information in the hands of potential home buyers too. Thanks again and if you have any more suggestions that would be helpful too. By the way --what do you think of a competition for writing a book??Sound too daunting to you?

Hi Paula, Your blog is one of my favorites. I love your observations about the area, and will look forward to reading your book! You might want to buy a new book that just came our yesterday: "Around Westhampton." It's not a "boring" travel log, and has a good story line with all the historic pictures. I can't agree with you more about trying to write about all the wonderful things to do and see in this special place called "the Hamptons." Best Regards

Hi Robert, It will be interesting to see the new book on Westhampton; is it in the stores or is it an ebook? Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment. I would like to hear more about the book here if it is yours..if not, that's ok too but I think it could be fun to at least think about doing one!
