Yesterday I got a chance to visit the Santa Clarita Veterans Historical Plaza, located in Newhall at 24275 N Walnut Street.
It is beautiful there. The garden, which is much like a formal Victorian garden, is situated across the street from William S. Hart Park, and next to Newhall Avenue. The design team of the Plaza set out to create a place of serenity and reflection in the middle of a bustling city. The water features of the Plaza provide a nice visual effect and reduce the noise from adjacent surface streets, such as Newhall Ave. They really do provide for a nice calming effect.
Also at the Veterans Historical Plaza you will find a big lawn area and the United States flags, flanked by flags from each of the five branches of the military. It's a wonderful tribute to the Veterans of all the past wars. Each visitor has the opportunity to read plaques that offer a summary of each war the United States has been in. Also honoring those who served in past wars fighting for our country, are hundreds of engraved bricks that that surround the ellipse. There is also over 50 trees and hundreds of shrubs that make this one of the greenest park facilities in the city of Santa Clarita.
It's said that the Santa Clarita Veterans Historical Plaza is one of the largest and most significant facilities in Los Angeles County that honors veterans, created in the last 50 years. The addition of story-stations, donor plaques, and war memorial art are currently in the works.
Next time you're in Santa Clarita, and more specifically Newhall, stop by Veterans Historical Plaza for some rest and relaxation, and honor those who have served our country.
