Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo

Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo is home to more than 290 animals that have many tall tales to tell us all.  The majority of the residents of the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo were either rescued from the possibility of extinction or they have completed a long journey from an exotic locale and now call the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo home.

During Hurricanes Ivan, Dennis, and Katrina, all animal residents needed to be evacuated from the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo This was never done by a zoo before in the United States. With all of the attention from local and national media, Animal Planet produced a 13-part television series Animal Planet entitled "The Little Zoo that Could that profiled the amazing things that happen at Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo."

The zoo is located in a low-lying area just a mile from the Gulf of Mexico. After being closed for a long period due to storm repair, the decision has been made that it would be best to move the Zoo to higher ground.  With the generous donation of property located just off Highway 59 on County Road 6 in Gulf Shores, about two miles north of the Intercoastal Waterway Bridge, Gulf Shores will be the new home to the zoo.  The facilities are now under construction with a completion date to be set in the near future.

At the present site, you can find lions, tigers, bears, monkeys and macaws tucked away from the beautiful beaches of the gulf Coast. Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo also is the host to a petting zoo, reptile house, aviary and daily animal shows in the summer.

Gulf Shores will now be able to add the new zoo to its long list of attractions that help make it the great community it is to live in. Fill your life with sunshine and sandy white beaches with gentle gulf shore breezes as you walk along miles of amazing coastline. Get your bags packed and head to Gulf Shores or Orange Beach.  Find out what the excitement is all about.  I have the best resources to help you get amazing rates for a lovely beach front condo that you will find it hard to say no to.
