Victory Garden at Heritage Park in San Marcos
Recently a group of community volunteers from the San Marcos Historical Society, the Kiwanis Club of San Marcos and teens from Reflections North spent the day out at Walnut Grove Park in San Marcos. Specifically, Heritage Park, which is within Walnut Grove Park and is part of the San Marcos Historical Society and Museum complex.
The project included doing a little spring cleaning inside the historic homes as well as creating a Victory Garden in the north west corner of Heritage Park. Victory Gardens were popular during the wars as a way to help reduce the pressure on the food supply and boost civil moral.
In a few short months Victory Garden at Heritage Park will yield a wonderful crop of squash, onions, corn, peppers and cucumbers. I am sure that the local bunnies and squirrels will enjoy a few meals as well!
If you or anyone you know is interested in making San Marcos a better place to live and work, contact the Kiwanis Club of San Marcos or the San Marcos Historical Society and get involved.
