John, it seems to me that a photo is a very important way to brand oneself.  I just don't think yard signs, fliers, or print items are as recognizable in the brief few seconds that the consumer has to look at it without a picture.  That is my take on the matter.

Hi Maya, I am so glad you got over to visit this post.  Which business card picture do you like?  The "professional" one, or my "bRUCE" self made card?    ^_~

Shanna, I will wear a fanny pack just to embarrass my daughters when we meet at a restaurant.  ^_~

Shanna, here is how the picture came to be:

I opened up the lid on our outdoor barbecue,and did not know that my daughters had loaded it with lighter fluid!!!!  When the oxygen hit the starter fluid there was a loud WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH and the hair on my leaning head was singed BIG TIME.  It was a wretched hair arrangement and too good not to pass up a great photo opportunity, so I donned by classic mid to late 70's plaid sport coat and mismatching shirt and tie.   

Shanna, maybe I can send her one of those world famous Indiana University tee shirts that say:

HOOSIER MOMMA

Inna, I had a lot of fun with that picture!  Comment #79 explains the inspiration after I had my hair singed on the outdoor grill!
