Our Association of Realtors recently joined forces with SWMRIC, which is a multi Board MLS system services most of West Michigan. At first the lure of all the new listings and more so the exposure for our listings sounded good. Especially the little "tax info" button that would give us Property tax info along with legal descriptions, SEV's and other tax related info. Now we have bee in the system a while I am seeing where maybe we should have thought things through a bit. While we are now part of a Multi Board MLS we are still governed by our individual Boards so there is no single set of rules for us all to live by. For instance in our Board it is not allowed to put agent info in the public remarks section as it would give an unfair advantage to the list agent. IN a Multi-Board system some are allowed others aren't, so to sum it up, when I send MY clients listings from those Boards the listing agent and contact info is right there for the client to see but my listings cannot include such info. Doesn't seem too equal does it? The Tax info button also turned out to be better on paper. It is year old information and even the legal's could have changed in a year so the button does nothing more than a year old plat map. Think long and hard before you lobby for a multiple Board MLS. Without a single set of rules for all to follow it is not the green grassed pasture it sounded like. Best of luck in all you do.
