Hello Future Homebuyers,
As Realtors, we have several responsibilities and a Code of Ethics we must uphold at all times. Our first priority is educating potential homebuyers and homesellers in the sale/purchase of real estate.
A fellow Realtor encountered this today and I feel compelled to share the story in hopes to help future home buyers from doing this.
The Realtor receives a call from a homebuyer they exchange information and proceed to plan to see homes. The Realtor emails them information, calls and speaks with them about their options, etc. The Realtor schedules some showings on the homes the Buyer asked to see. They plan to meet tonight at 5:00 p.m. The Realtor confirms the appointment with all parties on Monday. The Realtor proceeds with driving to the appointment (approximately 1 hour drive time).
Upon arriving the Realtor sees which appears to be another Realtor with this couple. As he approaches the couple, the Realtor learns that the other Realtor is actually there to show the couple this home too!!! Needless to say this was VERY AWKWARD and UNPLEASANT for my fellow Realtor today and as he voiced his thoughts on this situation to the buyer, the buyers could only hang their head in shame for not being courteous enough to inform the Realtor of their intentions and at least apologize for wasting his time since they obviously were working with another Realtor.
Realtors are a wonderful, knowledgeable and hard working group of Professionals who take pride in their profession. They do not get paid for driving to show a home. They only get paid if an offer is negotiated and closed on. Please be honest and let us know you are working with someone else. Do the right thing.
I know many people do not understand the business of Real Estate. As years have passed so has the way of doing business in Real Estate. Today, we have Sellers Agents, Buyers Agents, Dual Agents and Transaction Coordinators, etc. no matter how you slice it we are here to do one thing sell homes and help educate the public at the same time. Please take the time and appreciate our profession.
Sincerely,
Professional Realtors
