I Am a Blogger

TypingSo this is what happens when you get hit with some good blog fodder.  Even if you have a million other things that HAVE to get done, you can’t do them until you get this one thing out of your head first.

TLW, my Active Rain “Mom”, did a very nice thing for me today, and part of it was “The Paradoxical Commandments”.

The one that gets to me the most is:

“Honesty and frankness makes you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.”

That spoke to me because I think that is the very heart of my blogging.

I don’t mind putting out whatever of me needs to come out in a post.  If I feel the post needs it, I’ll tell you about being an abused wife, being shot at or feeling lost.  I’ll tell you about my daughter’s disabilities -- with her blessing, because like me, she’d rather say it if it will help you.

I never mind saying when I feel out of my element or that I worry too much.  Or how much I love my kids.  I’ll even tell you my age!  Why hide it, I’m happy for every year God chooses to bless me with!

I’ll let you in on past and present conversations with my kids. Sure, there’s stuff I won’t tell you.  But the stuff that makes me vulnerable doesn’t scare me.

I watched my Grandma age and forget things sometimes.  She’d laugh and move on.  Nothing embarrassed her.

I’ve seen my daughter go through hell with her disabilities, and I couldn’t carry any of it for her.  She still smiled, she still grew and made friends and went on.  Why hide?

If you’re going to write a blog and you want people to read it, you need to be real.  If you want people to come back, let them into your life a little.  Good and bad.  Be real(If you only read one link here and you blog, read that one.)

Trust me, you are interesting and people will want to hear what you have to say.  Yes, you should talk about work and things your clients want to know, too.  But I think one of the major points of a blog is that it is by definition a log or journal of your thoughts.

You can argue with me and tell me that this is a business network or that I should be more professional, and it won’t make much of a dent. I don't care about following anyone's rules but my own.  (And don't tell my friends how to blog anymore either, they're doing just fine.)  If you want to write it, do.  Don't even think about what "should" be in your blog.  It's yours, you make it up as you go.  Yes, this is permission if you need it.

I blog because I almost have to.  The words want to come out and I don’t really even have that much control over them.  I have other things I should be doing but this post insisted on being written first.

I am a blogger.

Sarah, I have read several of your blogs, and each one is different, yet there you are. You do not ever try to disrespect anyone, and manage to get your point across in a almost non contaversional way. You are indeed more than a blogger. Your writing ability, gets right to the heart. You are real and your readers will laugh, cry, smile, say awwe, or feel along with you in your writtings. Thanks for sharing all of you.

Karen - I only know one way to write, unless I'm angry.  (Then I use big words.)  I'm glad you like it, but like TLW/Mom reminded me, only do it if you're comfortable with it.

Lysa - Ah, the run-on blog is a blessing in disguise!  Go back and edit it and you might get three good posts out of it!  Have a friend look at it if it just refuses to behave for you.

Mom - Thank you.  I loved it, and now I want to go thump some people.  Or sic my brother on them, he's bigger.  ;o)  (I'm kidding!!)

(Cause I'd take care of it myself!)

Joeann - I like the ones that touch my heart or crack me up!  I'm not good at humor though, so this is where I go.  I also get to know and love certain writing styles, and I want to hear MORE.

Rosario - I should probably listen to Mom more about a LOT of stuff.  I'm too stubborn for my own good.  I know it, I just don't know how to want to be different!

Allison - Wow!  I think that's one of the nicest compliments I've ever had!  Thank you.

Beth - Not that you need anyone's permission to do as you please with your own blog, but you have mine.  Go forth and blog like it's nobody's business!!

British Homes Group - I like the humor, too!

Diane - Wow, that's a great compliment!  I do try not to be disrespectful, but Mom's post makes me want to go around AR cleaning house.  Who's been being so mean?!

Dianne - You're very welcome.  I'm not good at fiction, I can only write me.  Glad you like it.

Patrick - It's not so brave, it doesn't bother me.  If it bothered me and I did it anyway, that would be brave.  I'm probably just foolish.  ;o)

Jay - I've never heard anything so nice, ever.  If you don't have a granddaughter and you need one, you may have me.   I'm all out of grandparents and I miss them.

Jay, what is your title?  Are you Grandpa, Granddad, Pop?  Something else?   :o)

Rhonda - I got your mail, I loved it.  I plan on writing you back later when I have more time.  I have family coming any time now so I'm just puttering around commenting while I wait.  ;o)

Sarah,  This blog touched me so that I ended up reading some of your links...I won't go in to great detail but:  I have a 27 year-old son with learning disabilities (They thought he had Tourettes Syndrome but is was a combo of OCD, Dyslexia and other things), I was in an abusive relationship for 3 years in college, I was in an armed robbery when I was a manager of a Gap Store, and while I am relatively new to blogging I have already felt the need to write about something just as you described.  Keep sharing and I will keep listening.

As part of my Professional persona, I am myself - caring, forthright, trustworthy, maybe a little goofy and somewhat funny.  Life should be shared , it should be fun, work is fun, and every day is a new adventure. That is what I share in my blogs - the real me.

Diane - At first they thought my Tall One might have had Tourettes, she has a "tic" with her OCD.  She's been medicated for years now and I haven't seen or thought about the tic much until you said that.  Funny how so many of us share the same experiences, isn't it?  And sometimes we still feel so alone.  Doesn't have to be that way, but I think sometimes we need it.

Granddad Jay - :o)!!

Kathleen - That's what I try to share, too!  But as I've said, I don't think I'm good at fiction, so what else do I have?

I think politicians need to read this. If you watch the debates some of them seem to be trying it. It's true though for blogs, if it's the same old stale, PC beyond all recognition crap, then it's just like a mission statement, no one wants to read it!
