Organic Farming Coming To Clarksburg, MD

Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Realty Group

Michael Protas, Organic Farming in Clarksburg MD. Organic farming could be coming to Clarksburg, MD!  Yesterday, my travels took me to a remote part of Clarksburg, MD - on Clarksburg Road.  I was meeting Michael Protas, owner of One Acre Farm.  Currently, One Acre Farm is located in Poolesville, MD.  Michael is looking to expand and this listing sounded really exciting.  It's 40 acres and priced so well.  Why?  Well, it's non-subdividable and about half of those acres are on a forest conservation area.

My sedan was not at all suited for the terrain.  I parked at the entrance and walked the gullied path that wound uphill to where Michael and his mom, Judy, had parked their car.

Studying the survey, observing trees that would need to be cleared as well as those that couldn't, the peacefulness and serenity of the gently rolling landscape Michael & Judy Protas, Organic Farming in Clarksburg MD. couldn't be ignored.  The survey indicated a stream that runs through the property and Michael left Judy and I to go and explore.

Judy told me about Michael's passion for farming that all started with a field trip when he was in college.  His degree from Penn State is in filmmaking, but farming is his calling.  Michael hopes to share his passion for farming and community-building and to encourage interest in eating local, eating seasonal and eating pesticide-free.  Please read more about Michael and One Acre Farm on his website at

Is the company in for a name change???  Forty Acre Farm?  Our community would be so fortunate!

hi Jane,

Sounds like an exciting venture! I owned an organic hobby farm for 11 years and sold heritage varieties of fruits, vegetables, flowers and herbs (all organic) at our local farmer's market 3 days a week for 5 of those years (when my sons were small). It was one of the happiest and most satisfying times in my life....
