In the past 6 months I have done 3 short sales and am now working on my 4th. This may not seem like a lot in other areas of the country, but in Western Pennsylvania this is still a new thing that is just catching on. We have a lot of agents in the area who specialize in foreclosures and working with banks on that end, but no one who specializes in short sales where there are actual home-owners still involved who have feelings and emotions about facing losing their home and the financial stresses they are under. I've been doing a lot of research with short sales and after successufully battleing through the last few I plan on actively marketing myself as someone who can help homeowners with a possible alternative to foreclosure and getting the NAR designation as a Alternative to Forecloure Specialist.
It's funny because I have mentioned this to various agents and they laugh. "Why would you want to be bothered with that?" "You do all that work and the bank beats you down in commission, it's not worth it"
Well the way I see it is it is worth it! To be able to help offer a potential freedom from the financial strains and burdeons on familes is well worth it to me.
These same agents who turn their noses at short sales were there to benefit from these same home owners when the market was booming and home values were high. We live in different times now.
I have found so many inspiring blogs here on Active Rain regarding short sales and am definitely thankful for all the information available from agents who are working them.
