Transforming Your Moms into Advocates on this Mother's Day

Hi Everyone!

We are less than two days away from one of my favorite holidays. As many of you know I was raised by a single mother and saw firsthand just how difficult and rewarding the role of a mom can be. Make it a point this mothers day to not only thank the people in your life that deserve it but do something special for them that will demonstrate just how grateful you really are.

For you Realtors this means not only recognizing the people in your life that have played mothering roles over the years, but are you honoring the mothers in your database that deserve it? As the clients of our coaching programs know we use templates for just about every holiday. Does your database allow you to segment your lists to the extent that is needed to put together a letter for everyone necessary with a touch of a button on a holiday like Mother's Day? This may sound excessive but the highest producing agents have discovered that real estate has always been and will always be a contact sport.

If you want to create a relationship with your client base that goes beyond Realtor/Client then you have to develop patterns that mirror those more of a friendship than the average Realtor. That means recognizing them on Mother's Day and calling them on their birthday, among other things.

I hope this helps you expand your mindset beyond just running your business and trying to make commission checks and brings you to a higher level where you are dedicated to creating advocates out of every person you do business with.

To all of you mothers out there... Have a great Mother's Day!

Jared James

Excellent post, Jared.  I think Mothers Day is a great day to show appreciation to all moms.  And as for your actual mom, if you are lucky enough to still have yours, make Mothers Day come more than once a year.  I used to make it a point to call or write my mother about 6 times a month - then suddenly she was gone.

Once she is no longer there, you will wish you had shown your appreciation even more.  I have lost my mom, my dad, and my sister, and it is hard not to wonder if they knew just how important they were to me.  I'm pretty sure they did - especially my dad because I called him every day for the last 18 months of his life, when he and I were the only ones left, and spent one weekend a month visiting with him (I lived in Southern California and he was up here in Fair Oaks).

Thanks Jared, I am going to make it a point to contact several clients and wish them a happy Mother's Day.

Thanks Susan. You could be more spot on. I appreciate your experience and words of wisdom on this issue. I don't know what part of California you are in but I am speaking at a big event in Anaheim on May 21st. If you are anywhere in the area you should come by and say hi.

Bryan: It is good to see someone take action and make the decision to implement a good idea. If you start doing these kinds of things on a regular basis your client retention and referral business will explode.

Keep checking back guys. I will be posting tips to help your business on a regular basis. Have a great weekend!

Good idea, Jared.

Not only is it a good idea for business, but it's a good idea to help each of us be a better person by making other people feel better.

Couldn't agree more Chris. That is what it is all about. I am always trying to find strategies that bridge the gap between business and personal. Thanks for the comment!
