Moms can be kind, understanding, sympathetic, nurturing, patient, complicated, longsuffering, unfathomable and even irritating and insufferable at times----you know----mothers. If this was not the way it was supposed to be----they would not have been made out of women. We all have lots of mothers in our lives----not just the ones that bore us or raised us----but all those others too that were either mothers to us or to those we care about, like the aunts, the girlfriends, the wives, the grandmothers, the great grandmothers, the moms of our children, the moms of our grandkids, and the moms of our friends, the mother's in law----even sisters. Carrying on the species would be difficult indeed if it was not for mothers, and yet for those of us that have moms (all of us----for those of you not paying attention) it seems we like to make it more difficult for moms anyway----by marching off to war, by climbing mountains, by jumping out of airplanes----or any number of other ways of acting like we actually have lives of our own. But this too is the way it is supposed to be----moms even know that. Happy Mother’s Day to the moms in my life-----and in your life too. Charles Buell
