Neighborhood work project in Seattle.

Ravenna Park Naomi Circle Work Project makes short work of dirt mountain.

Many Hands Make Light Work

Saturday was a beautiful day and a good day to move dirt. Mark, Sue, Mark , Rajan, Mike, JoElla, Joe, Glenn, and a couple of others I didn’t recognize made it to the Naomi traffic circle project to move 2+ yards of black dirt from Patrick and Laura’s place to the circle. What might have been a long job for a couple of people was finished in an hour. More importantly, we are finally getting some credits tallied up for the grant a few worked so hard to acquire for this project over the winter.

Moving dirt

All of the work we put in last fall in removing the ivy, spreading wood chips and other clean up was pre-grant and does not qualify for the grant money which will be used to buy new native plants and trees.

The crew

If you are not a member of the Ravenna West News Group and live between 15th and 25th and south of NE 65th, sign up today. You’ll be able to keep abreast of what’s happening in Ravenna Park – good and bad – and meet some neighbors you haven’t met yet.  And, if you have a yen for it, you can be part of this neighborhood project. Maybe you’re not a gardener. It has been suggested that those working might enjoy lemonade and homemade cookies while working. And providing such motivation/reward is sanctioned by the city for the hourly credits. There are plenty of projects coming up this summer as we make this former ivy patch the natural garden it should be.

Thanks for your help.
