Laura and Terra are still hard at work leading the Vancouver Washington Green Drinks group. Here is the invitation for this months get together. Everyone is invited. It is a great group that meets to discuss current green issues. I hope to see you there!
Hello Everyone, We had a fantastic 2 yr anniversay party!!!!! Thank you so much, check out the great pics on our facebook account. We are so grateful for the support. It's been a blast!!
Terra and I have been approached by many people who are devastated by the ongoing oil spill in the Gulf. The question that keeps coming back is, "what can I do?". Truthfully there isn't much that most of us will be able to do to help, short of sending money or finding a group to volunteer with. Terra found a nonprofit group named Matter of trust who is accepting human and pet hair to be made into oil absorbent mats and boom to clean up the shorelines. We coordinated with 6 local businesses that are willing to save hair until next Sunday May 16th. Terra and I will collect, package, and send out the hair on Monday the 17th. Any donations towards shipping costs will be gratefully accepted-contact one of us if you'd like to help with a few dollars. :-) Here's a link to some basic info about the process of making the hair mats. http://www.matteroftrust.org/programs/hairmatsinfo.html
So if you or yours are in need of a new look this week please consider one of these six locations so that your hair is included:
Super Cuts in Hazel Dell near Target SuperCuts in Salmon Creek near Fred Meyers SuperCuts on Andreson near Home Depot SuperCuts in Orchards near Padden Parkway and 117th Utopia Salon on 78th ST near Izzies Petco pet grooming Salons
So looking ahead, our next event will be on Wednesday May 26th at Who Song and Larry's on the riverfront. As usual intros will start at 6PM. Our five minute spiel will come from Steve Gunther from Sequential Biofuels. We will learn about the biofuel process at their Portland based business that accepts used cooking oils for biofuels. www.sqbiofuels.com
Terra and I also want to talk about the future and new exciting direction for the third year of Vancouver greendrinks. We have a lot of great ideas up our sleeves. Stay tuned and bring us your ideas.
Don't forget to check out our webpage and Terra's blog to see our Calendar of events. http://reusing.blogspot.com/p/calendar-of-events.html
