Black walls in kitchen

By
Home Stager with Staged Makeovers
I did a color consult in a home today that had black floral wallpaper in the kitchen.  The cabinets were medium oak, floors medium oak and the appliances were black.  Since the home is vacant, every feature is exaggerated.  The homeowners are willing to remove the wallpaper so I suggested Sherwin Williams' color "blonde."  It is a golden beige that highlights the color or oak.  Can't wait to see it completed.

Sharon:

Unbelievable.  Good thing the sellers were willing to change the color.  Now it has a chance to sell.

Wow...that's exactly what my last house had when we bought it.  It even had the complimentary black/pink border.  It was horrible!  Can't wait to see the B/A!

Sharon, I used that same color once and it turned out to look more yellow than expected. Be sure to test the walls first before you apply the color everywhere.

Taking down the paper is always a good idea and using neutral colors with bright sharp accents are always a smart choice.

Ann, yes it's true that colors can be deceiving based on the light from outdoors and how it reflects on the walls.  In this case, ANYTHING is better than black!  Plus even if it pulls yellow, that will be a good color since the surrounding colors are red and green.  Thanks for your input.

Glad you were able to convince them.  Just did a house where they removed dated wall paper from the kitchen!  What a difference!  Now, we just hope it sells!

Sharon,

If you were in Nashville I would swear I had been in the same kitchen. Wonder if the homeowners were realted? Great color suggestion too. I love "Blonde" from SW and use it often.
