Vienna, This is a great information, as I think that we should all be shredding anything with our names or addresses on it. I keep a shredder next to my desk and everything goes in it.

Hi Sandy...

I agree.  I've had my identity stolen, back in 2003.  Someone was using my Drivers License!  I was in and out of court for speeding tickets, reckless driving... etc etc.. It cost me so much money to fix it.  There are some tickets they judge refused to remove.  It was so stressful.  My insurance was sky high for a long time... So stressful and aggrevating.  I don't know who did it, but I'm glad it's over.

FYI:  If this ever happens to anyone, contact Motor Vehicles ASAP!  They give you a special number to attach to your drivers license number.  Don't EVER tell it to anyone, because they only give it to you once.  If you get pulled over, that special number will come up in the officers computer, and he/she will ask you for it.  You are the only person who should know this number, so they will know you are who you say you are.

My step-mother has also had her identity stolen.  They were receiving Macy's credit cards and several other credit cards in the mail.  She tossed the first few out, thinking they were advertisements... before realizing they were REAL already approved credit cards.  Someone was applying for INSTANT credit in every department store imaginable.  After a thorough police investigation, they caught the guy who was responsible.

Turns out .. she went to a car dealer to check out a new car.. they run her credit there, found out she had excellent credit... And THE GUY FROM THE CAR DEALERSHIP STOLE HER IDENTITY!!!

I think identity thieves are the lowest of the low.. complete degenerates.  They say the average person will spend almost $20,000 reclaiming their identity!  How many of us have an extra twenty grand to throw away on lawyers and legal fees!?  These pieces of trash have no clue the heartache and stress they cause.

Hi Vienna...

I'm the Queen of shred it, shred it and shred it some more :)

So sorry you had to learn the hard way how to play it safe on The Face. But, at least you learned and you *get it*. Many agents don't and continually place themselves in precarious, and sometimes dangerous, positions. Love a woman who catches on quickly :)

And your remarks about my weapons of destruction cracked me :)

TLW...ROAR!

Vienna ~ excellent advice.  Sorry to read your story.  That had to be just awful.  I am very careful about my identity.

Vienna, this is great for people who don't have shredders. We have them at the office and a personal one at home. Our son-in-law had his identity stolen by a disgruntled former employee and it was costly and took awhile to clear up.
