I received information today from Councilman Bob Botts that our current Police Chief, Jeff Horton will be retiring on Sept 1, 2007. The City Manager, Randy Anstine annouced that Leonard Purivs will be our new Chief.
Congrats to Mr. Purvis for his new position...we wish Chief Horton the best in his retirement.

(Banning, California) City Manager Randy Anstine has announced the retirement of Chief of Police, John Horton, effective September 1, 2007. Chief Horton has enjoyed a distinguished 32 year career in professional law enforcement in Riverside County and the City of Banning Police Department which has been transformed under his leadership during the past 3 years.
Randy Anstine is also excited and pleased to announce that Mr. Leonard Purvis will succeed Chief Horton on the City's executive management team as the new Police Chief effective Sunday, September 2, 2007. As Leonard Purvis currently serves as the City's Deputy Chief of Police, this appointment will provide a seamless transition in command within the department
Prior to joining the City of Banning in March, 2007, Leonard Purvis served 17 years in law enforcement with the Riverside County and Los Angeles County Sheriff's Departments. According to City Manager Anstine, "based upon Leonard's skills and credentials, I am sure everyone can understand my excitement about retaining Leonard Purvis as the new Chief of Police.
