Almost Wordless Wednesday...Open Up Your Nostrils For Ligustrum japonica "Japanese Privet"

By
Real Estate Agent with Gulf Shores Realty DRE# SL661376

Wordless is this Floridian Privet Tree indeed but its aromatic qualities speak" volumes from several feet away and the bees, wasps and flies LOVE it!  Many neighborhoods require this tree because of its overall beauty and the aromatic blossoms.  But it takes an entomologist such as I to appreciate its full value to the ecosystem.  Post script:  Don't you just love it when your camera makes up a date when you change batteries?

The year I moved to Maryland was an invasion of the senses with all the great Spring flowers. I am happy to see that Florida is as fragrant.

It looks like a great tree to have.  Do you happen to know if it will survive or thrive in a semi-arid area such as here in Southern California?  I'm looking for some landscape design ideas for an apartment complex in San Bernardino and I love the idea of incorporating pleasant fragrances into the mix.

The scents that greet you as you step out of your car can be very pleasing at some locations this time of year.

And yes, consistently resetting the date and time on my camera... annoying!

Yes, Michael, I am fairly sure this species will do well.  There is a 60 year old hedge of it in Orange County (Newport Beach) on my former home and it only gets watered from the heavens during those 2 rainy months.
