It's Game Seven Tonight - Guess Who I am Rooting For?

By
Education & Training

This is my cheer post for the Montreal Canadiens (hockey team) a.k.a Habs.

They are in the NHL playoffs and will play the defending Stanley Cup champions (Pittsburgh Penguins) in Pittsburgh in game 7 of their best 4 out of 7 series.

Should they win, they will advance and play in the Eastern Conference Final (only 4 teams make it to the Conference Finals).  Lose, and they are out of the playoffs and on vacation till next season.

This is the most exciting night in years for any Montreal Canadiens fan.  The last time the Canadiens made it to the Conference Final was in 1993, the last year when they won the Stanley Cup.

In my small town of Red Lodge, Montana (population 2,400) there are a total of 3 known Canadiens' fans (not bad for a town more than 3,000 miles away from Montreal).  I am hoping to meet the other fans at Foster and Logan's (a great restaurant/bar in town) to watch the beginning of the game (it starts in less than 10 minutes!).  In comparison, there will be over 20,000 Habs fans at the Bell Center in Montreal who will be wearing red to cheer on the Canadiens and watch the game on one of two jumbo trons.  The money raised from this event will be donated to a charity (La Fondation des Canadiens pour l'enfance) to help kids with needs.  Talk about also helping out with a very good cause!

Here are three photos which I dedicate to my favorite professional sports team!   Please keep the Cinderella story alive!

I am hoping that the Montreal Canadiens keep on Climbing to the Top - Go Habs Go!

I will also be wearing red by wearing my Montreal Canadiens jersey (the one seen in the photo above).

Go Habs Go!   Vive les Canadiens de Montreal!

Gerry - I think if I were to bet on that answer, I'd have better odds than winning the lottery:-)  Good luck!

Montreal Canadiens win 5-2 over the Pittburgh Penguins and win the series 4-3.

I just got back home from a little night (make it a big) night of celebration!

malcolm,

Thank you for the smiel. I do not doubt that the Leafs are the best golfers after the early exits in the last few seasons (way too much time practicing golf!).

Linda,

I am actually rooting for a Chicago versus Montreal Stanley Cup final but both teams need to advance one more round before that happens.  It would be a great original 6 final!

Al and Peggy,

I thought I was not that loud but you must have pretty good ears to hear from that far.  Thank you for cheering for my team (we are all Canadian after all).  Go Habs Go!

Wow - great photos and I love the red border lol.  Way to go Habs.  Nice to see a Canadian team win.  We've given up on Toronto.

Jenny,

Thank you!   Wait till you see the photo in the following Go Habs Go post!

I was actually cheering and hoping for an all Canadian NHL Stanly Cup Final between the Montreal Canadiens and the Vancouver Canucka.  Kind of like a can can festival!   LOL

I am also glad that a Canadian team made it though to the Final Four of the NHL playoffs.

Now that the Canadiens won game 7 by a score of 5-2 and the series against the Penguins 4-3, I can post another photo which I was hoping to do but had to wait till the end of game 7 and a win by the Montreal Canadiens.

Check it out in the following post: Not-So-Wordless Wednesday - Go Habs Go!

Gerry,

We are all on board now. They have already beaten the two best teams in the league, so they should really coast from here on.

Marc,

They wrote some great statistics for the NHL's history books.  I am glad that the Habs are also getting some great support from Toronto.  Go habs Go!

Brian,

I am not doing the big celebration dance till they actually win two more series but I will agree that the prospects look much better now.  :)

Malcolm,

Thanks.   It is sure one for the record books: two back to back series won in game 7 by a team ranked 8th in their conference and 16th overall (out of 16) in the playoffs!

Why are the Canadiens known as "Habs." Is that a French acrononym or abbreviation?

Russel,

It was explained in the prior post but here it is again just for you:

The team's main English nickname, Habs, is an abbreviation of "Les Habitants" (French for inhabitants).
