Too Long

Well folks it has been too long since I wrote about a Central Coast Adventure. I know, I promised you
more information as soon as it got sunny and you know what happened? I started enjoying all of that sun and working like crazy. That's right! Work has been going great despite this 'down economy.' In fact, work has been a major contender for my 'free time' and I have been scheduling times to go out and hit up the Central Coast for some new material. So here it is, the latest update from beautiful San Luis Obispo. ENJOY!

Mountain Biking: Oh my goodness there has been a ton of mountain biking going on lately. I have been steadily building a group of riders in San Luis Obispo that are as passionate about getting out onto the trails as I am and what a monster I have created! These guys ride constantly so much so that I cannot keep up with them. Regardless, there were a few weeks after the rainy season where the cattle had turned the trails into a rough and bumpy ride with potholes and cowpies peppered throughout but the last few weeks have been dry enough that riders and livestock alike have worked the soil back into beautiful trails. Most popular trails include:
Cerro San Luis' (AKA Madonna Mountain) Lemon Grove Loop, Rock Garden and fire road
Cuesta Grades' Botanicals, Mourning Glory, Shooters, Elevators, and Euks
Cal Poly Canyon's Tough and Dirty Slide and fire road
Irish Hills' King, Mariposa, Mine and Bog Thislte
Montana de Oro's Manzanita, East Boundary, Hazards, Pecho

SCUBA Diving season is upon us as the swells calm down and the waters are warming up. To prove this locally known fact I had to take a trip down to the Channel Islands on 05/08/2010 to make sure that this was indeed happening. Lo and behold, I can corroborate that story! I drove down for the trip on a Friday night Anthony the owner of the local dive shop, SLO Ocean Currents, and stayed on the Spectre. The Spectre is an old fishing boat that has been converted over into a dive boat complete with a 'hot tub.' The former bait tank is now fitted with seats, jets and nice warm water for after your dive. The boat left Ventura Harbor at 7 AM on Saturday morning and within an hour and half we were in the water 110 feet deep.

110 feet was a part of an advanced class and is only safe with proper education and experience. Most divers will never exceed 60 feet which is their recreational limit. Even at 60 feet or less there is a ton of wildlife to be found and actually, the diving is better there. While we were out diving we saw friendly sea lions, horn sharks, crabs, lobsters, black jacks, striped bass, garibaldi, sheep's head and many more types of sea life. Visibility was great at 20-30 feet and water temperature was 59 degrees at 110 feet! Sure it's chilly but not as chilly as it is in SLO waters. To get to Ventura Harbor it is only 2 hours drive along the scenic Highway 1.

More to come in the very near future... yes that means I have something big planned for you all to put on your travel itenerary or weekend to do list!

Until next time, keep the rubber down, the bars up and do not feed the bears.
