A Bit of History in the Making at La Costa

Tonight I witnessed a bit of La Costa history in the making.

The La Costa Resort and Spa, just a short walk from my home in Carlsbad, has been the site of the women's Acura Tennis Classic for many years. It's a great event and always draws world-class players.

I had the good fortune to attend the quarterfinals tonight, to watch Venus Williams (recent Wimbleton champion and three-time Acura Tennis Classic Champ) vs. AnnaChakvetadze. Williams, IMHO, was not at her best, and was beaten by Chalvetadze.

I am a bit of a Venus Williams fan. So it was disappointing to see her give up so many points, but her opponent was outstanding, and at 20 years old, is a rising star.

But that's not really the history I was referring to.

The Acura Tennis Classic is leaving La Costa after this year.  I don't know the reasons, and I suppose it doesn't matter. In the wake of the Accenture Match Play Golf Tournament moving on in 2006, this is yet another bit of history.

It was fun to see the match, however, but knowing that the tournament is leaving is bittersweet. I at least have the photos as a memory. Enjoy!

Jef,

You really love LaCosta...why don't you just live there on site and show buyers around?:)

MMMMMMMM tennis. You remind me how much I miss attending tennis matches. Looks like utopia there.

Jeff, the Volvo Tennis Classic is held here in Connecticut, and also draws many of the top tennis stars.  I have never been, but it is something that I would like to go to, especially since it is only about 30 minutes from where I live.

Sorry Venus lost, but at least you got to watch some great tennis.

LOL, Neal, Yep, you're right. They should hire me as spokesperson.

Carole - yep, it was fun, I don't watch tennis often but always enjoy it when I do.

George- you're right. Seeing the top seeded folks play is always fun even when they have a off night.  Gotta keep in mind that she just won Wimbleton so despite not being on par last night she is still an outstanding player. And now there is a new person to watch too.
