Immigrant Population Shifts

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Selley Group Real Estate, LLC

I just read an article from The Residential Specialist about the “Immigrant Shift.” As a Colorado Springs Realtor, the information I gleaned from this short segue sparked some marketing ideas for me.

From a study about Immigrants and Housing Markets in Mid-Size Metropolitan Areas, Colorado Springs experienced a 27 percent increase in new immigrant population. Quite frankly, I had no idea about this amount of influx of immigrants to our area.

And more profoundly, “the study estimates that immigrants and their descendants will make up 82 percent of U.S. population growth over the next 40 years.”

Perhaps all of us need to consider these numbers when creating marketing plans and serving other cultures which are different than those in which we are so comfortably familiar.

This is a great article and very important.  In our market place immigrants are making up 50% of the new home purchases.  It's important for us to help them maintain their culture and serve them in the way they want to be served.

That is amazing! I wonder how many will be Swedes like me? Not many I'm guessing.

Thanks for the interesting post, keep selling those Colorado Springs Homes!

Cherise  The Hispanic immigration has ecome a major cost factor in local communities - we have to be sure budgets reflect the true costs of all this, because taxes are going to increase

Hi Cherise!  You and I read the same article!  I have known about this surge in NC and STILL have not taken action to adapt my marketing.  I'm a slow learner, I guess!  Those forward thinking individuals are going to be FAR ahead of me, unless I get on the ball and do something about it.  I have taken several years of Spanish in my lifetime but, not in the past 30 years!  I think I need a refresher too!

Hope you and yours have a wonderful weekend...

Learning how to work with those who have different experiences and perspectives can be challenging, but quite rewarding. Overcoming some of the language barriers is tough. Gordon thanks for your input along with Cherise.

Hi Cherise, Definitely something to think about and plan for.  We are a nation of immigrants, but I think sometimes we forget that.

Jennifer,

I applaud you for your ambitions to learn another language.  I was thinking about hiring someone else from a different nationality.

Eric,

Appreciate your thoughts about urbanization.  I also believe this will be the trend for the future.

Not too many Swedes or for myself, not too many Hungarians.

Tiffany,

I bet this is a hot topic for Arizona.  I'm inclined to agree with the 70% who agree with the new laws.

Paula,

It certainly is all-inclusive about citizenship, financing, jobs and integrating cultures for our nation to address.  Our population growth actually shows the greatest growth among Muslims, then Hispanics.  Within 50 years, the Caucasian population will comprise a minority of our population.

Mary,

Yes we are a nation of immigrants, for sure.  The complexities of cultural integration I believe are more difficult to figure out these days.

Cherise,  the percentage is shocking, but the thought process is not.  I have enrolled for the Fall semester of college for beginning Spanish, I am taking the class online, and intend to have my 10 year old son follow along, as this is where our country is headed is multi-ingual.
