Everyone remembers a favorite teacher, the one that made you feel smart, be smarter because of his or her belief in you. You worked harder, but it seemed easier. Coaches can do the same thing while the focus is on physical systems and stamina. Your pastor, priest rabbi religious leader guides you in spiritual issues. Mentors have been around you forever. If you can’t find mentors right around you in your work today then look a little further.
What questions will you have today, and who is the best person to answer those questions? Who is a higher authority? Why not give them a call and ask? It is amazing the juice this can give you in a day. It is acknowledgement, it is information, it is connection and it broadens and deepens you as a professional and a person.
The follow through caveat with this is that you then need to take time in your day to answer something for someone who is struggling with a question you have positive experience to share. This flow creates colleagues both up and down the chain. It makes all of us feel better and grow faster. It is kind of a “mentor in a moment” program. Find your own when you need it and then be available to help another.
So I guess I am saying look around you for a daily mentor while you are looking to provide value and information to someone else in need. This positive daily flow through you connects you to all the best in the field. Let it flow for you today.
