We currently live on a property like the equestrian estate on your website.  We would like to scale back, at least in size and upkeep.  What kind of value are we exchanging, if any, by taking the same value of our home and property and putting it into a condo or penthouse with no property but a view?  If we wanted, for example, to live in a highrise in Bellevue would this be a smart investment for dollars that come from land?  Will urban/high rise property hold value (or lose value!) in the same way landed property does?

Hi Barb,

Great question!  When the market goes bad the first thing to loose its value is in highrises.  The highrises go in an out of fad.  And the prices are not always consistent with the market.  I have always thought of the highrises as a more speculative investment.  They make more sense in Miami or Hawaii where you have lots of international buyers.

And a view is always a great thing to have! I would recommend a safer place to invest in is waterfront property on Lake Washington or Lake Sammamish.  I don't know what you can afford, but I have a friend seling a home with a view of Lake Sammamish. MLS#66021.

Good luck!  Let me know if I can help you in any way.

Cheers,

Amy
