The Wider the Road is to Cross; the More Road Kill You Will Find

Recently I blogged a post regarding road kill -- "1970's Traditional Formal Living Room Doesn't Have To Be Road Kill".

Sometimes these homes from the 70's can be overwhelming -- the ROAD KILL to the real estate sale.  If there is updating for the buyer to contimplate . . .  then the road just looks that much wider to the buyer; with that many more lanes to safely get across.

So, just like the chicken that crossed the road to show the possum it could be done . . . Peachtree Home Staging implements their staging talent to show off how really great this 1970's family room will accommodate the buyer's budding family.

Step one -- note the painted paneling

 family room vacant

Step two -- when the room is already cozy it pays to show off those new hardwoods!

Step three:  Those old built-ins certainly can "come alive"!

Step 4:   Show them (quietly) where the flat screen goes.

Karen - nice job, the painted paneling looks great, we have quite a bit of 50's paneling here still.  Those floors are wonderful, I'm tired of seeing laminate!

Karen- I am so over paneling but love how your paint made it fade away.  The color paired with the white trim make the room classic, cozy and comfortable.  Good job!

Hi Karen ~ glad to see the sellers painted that paneling ... it looks so much better than the dark stuff.  You're right that the hardwood floors are really featured now.  I love that wine label art you used!  (by the way your photos are great too)

Hi William!  I could use you to talk with a couple of Realtors here that just don't get it!  Glad you do!

Hi Cynthia-- I like paint on paneling -- it really adds interest with the right art.  Thx!

Hey there Edward and Celia!  THX, Thx, Thx!

Hi Wanda -- thank you -- always love getting a compliment from a pro!

hey Kathy S. -- wish I could take credit for the color, but the seller used that color throughout.  I just 2nd the motion!  It's a great staging color for sure!

ARBB Maureen!  I love that wine label piece as well -- It's huge and so casual that I've only had two opportunities to use the piece.  Both times it has wowed the rooms presentation.  I'm open to any recommendations to improve my photos, still a newbie, but getting better, so thx for the kind words.

Hey Diana -- you are a sweetie, thank you for the follow!

Very nice work Karen. Ah the seventies. Does anyone remember pecky cedar paneling or gold designs on the mirrored closet doors?

You've beautifully demonstrated that every house can be brought up to date.

Doesn't painting the paneling make a huge difference? I had a lady that had almost this exact look, she said she didn't want to paint the paneling, she said the new owners could, but she wanted to stage the paneled rooms which had matching wood floors, I declined.

Great job Karen, it seems that people are afraid to paint paneling...but it makes a huge difference!

Thanks for the newest addition to my Staging terminolgy, Karen:  "Roadkill", as in "Let's get this roadkill ready for market."  Or, "To revitalize this roadkill, let's paint out the red dining room!".  Julie

Hi Cindy -- It is so disappointing when the seller wants our advice (like painting the paneling) and then doesn't follow it.  Thx for stopping by.

Hey Donna! My 1st choice recommendation is always to replace it with dry wall . . .  then painting doesn't sound that bad, does it?

Add me to the list of those who appreciate the painting--paneling. Much as some may hate it, it cannot be denied that you were able to update/upgrade a very large space with minimal investment for the seller--an important goal for stagers.

I think you may have created a whole new category for the expression "Roadkill"

Thanks Karen!
