Beautiful And Inexpensive Landscape Ideas for For Problem Areas
There are times when we buy properties for the way the house looks. It has the right amount of bedrooms and baths or we like that it has a nice kitchen. We may be attracted to the neighborhood or other amenities.
Sometimes, if we are just focused on the lack of vegetation around the house we may not put an offer on it.
New construction sites are usually lacking in natural plants and trees.
Usually, all landscape is scraped clean so the new home buyer will have to be creative and install trees, shrubs and flowers.
This can be quite an expense if all plants have to be purchased.
This picture is of the yard behind the house that includes a drainage pipe and creek.
The guardrail was installed after the homeowner had lived there a year.
The whole area was covered with 6 foot weeds and the dirt is clay.
Some of the steps that were used at this property:
- The process of cleaning the steep hillside took a long time and the weeds pulled out by hand and trash bags were filled.
- Next treated lumber was used to terrace it a bit to help in holding the dirt and provide footing when weeding or working with plants. Inexpensive rebar was used to anchor the boards in place.
- To prevent further weeds, Preen was spread over the area.
- Flowers like irises and day lilies can be used as perennials to help stabilize the dirt. Many plants can be donated from friends with overgrown flower beds that would love for you to dig up some and take them away.
- Wildflower seeds that attract butterflies were spread everywhere.
