I have to admit it - I have been a miserable failure at making pie crust. That's not easy for me to admit nor is it Pie Angela title I've been proud to wear.
Cue to heavenly angels - AAAAAAH! Halleluja, Hannah! I am no longer a failure! I have found the easiest, flakiest pie crust in the world.
Heavenly Pie Crust
- 1 1/2 to 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3/4 cup shortening (I use Crisco)
- 1/4 cup boiling water
- 1 tblsp. milk
In a large bowl, mix together flour (start with 1 1/2 cups), sugar and salt. Cut in the shortening and add the boiling water and milk. Blend all these ingredients well. On a lightly floured surface, roll out your dough into a 12' circle. Transfer the pastry to a 9' pie pan. Bake 450 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes until lightly brown.
This recipe can be doubled for a 2-crust pie. Just bake according to the pie recipe you're using.
